Innovation and professionalism have always been at the core of our philosophy. After introducing the GPS Unik and the Iritrack system years ago, the digital road book soon followed. Now, we are taking things one step further.
Starting from April 2026, the MDC road books will fully comply with international FIA standards.
What does this mean? It mainly concerns the standardization of the lexicon (the complete set of drawings and abbreviations used in road books). In other words: the use of the same abbreviations and terminology, as well as the definitions and classifications of the different types of waypoints. The distance at which these can be validated will also be standardized with FIA rallies. The advantage? Once you know the FIA lexicon, you can participate in any rally worldwide without being surprised by an unfamiliar symbol or sketch.
In addition, the coloring, size, and placement of danger warnings will be standardized. Finally, the number of “caps” (heading indications) mentioned will also increase.
What will not change, however, is the accuracy and level of detail that MDC road books have been known for over the past 10 years. The combination of ERTF, Iritrack, and FIA road books makes the Morocco Desert Challenge an even better preparation for those aiming to take on the Dakar in 2027.
