Classic & Malle Moto

Alongside the regular racing categories, the Morocco Desert Challenge 2027 offers two special challenges for competitors who want to experience the rally in a unique way. Bring a historic rally car back to life in the Classic category or take on the challenge entirely on your own as a Malle Moto rider. Two different concepts, united by the same passion for adventure, perseverance and pure rally raid.

The classic category

Rally history comes back to life

The Morocco Desert Challenge is a demanding rally raid that continues to evolve and improve year after year. In 2027, we are adding a remarkable new chapter: the Classic category. It is the perfect opportunity to dust off your father’s or grandfather’s legendary rally car or truck and unleash it once again on the terrain it was built to conquer. In the Moroccan desert, historic rally vehicles will once again have the chance to shine.

A full-fledged rally competition

The Classic category has its own separate classification within the rally. This is not a regularity event with imposed average speeds, but a genuine rally competition. Starting in Ouarzazate, you will cross Morocco towards Saïdia over eight varied stages.

The Classic classification distinguishes between:

  • historic rally cars and trucks that are at least 20 years old;
  • historic rally cars and trucks that are more than 30 years old.

This allows participants to compete against vehicles from a comparable generation.

Challenging, yet adapted to historic vehicles

As a Classic competitor, you will follow the same basic route as the other racing categories, but on a course that is approximately 20% shorter. The most extreme dune sections and toughest tracks will be removed from the route. Particularly difficult passages will either be shortened or bypassed using an alternative route.

You will still face a full-fledged rally raid featuring:

  • fast and varied tracks;
  • technical sections;
  • sandy plains and accessible dune sections;
  • challenging navigation;
  • eight days of racing from Ouarzazate to Saïdia.

The adapted route offers the right balance: demanding enough to put both crew and machine firmly to the test, while respecting the age and technical capabilities of these historic vehicles.

The same navigation and professional support

Competitors in the Classic category will also navigate using the digital ERTF system on a tablet, just like participants in the other racing categories. This means you will experience the rally according to the same modern and professional competition standards.

Classic is therefore anything but a leisurely, nostalgic journey through the desert. You will be an integral part of the Morocco Desert Challenge and enjoy the same unique bivouac atmosphere, professional organisation and extensive safety measures. The medical team, helicopters, crisis centre and sweeper vehicles will remain on standby throughout the entire rally.

Bring your classic out of the garage, prepare it for a new adventure and write the next chapter in its rally history together.

Malle Moto returns

Rally raid in its purest form

Malle Moto is the toughest and most adventurous challenge for motorcyclists in the Morocco Desert Challenge. Not only do you complete every stage entirely on your own, but once you arrive at the bivouac, you are also responsible for maintaining and repairing your motorcycle. No service truck, no mechanics and no personal assistance crew: just you, your motorcycle, your tools and the determination to make it back to the starting line every morning.

This category is intended for experienced and well-prepared riders who want to experience rally raid in its purest form. Speed and navigation are important, but in Malle Moto, technical knowledge, endurance, preparation and perseverance also make all the difference. After a long day on the tracks, you must inspect, maintain and, if necessary, repair your motorcycle yourself.

No assistance, but full logistical support

Although technical assistance is not permitted, the organisation provides the essential infrastructure and logistical support you need at the bivouac. This service is mandatory for every participant in the Malle Moto category. The fixed service fee is €750 per participant.

This service includes:

  • lighting, compressed air and electricity in the work area;
  • a shared workshop tent;
  • a work mat for motorcycle maintenance;
  • a 2 Seconds tent with a mattress;
  • daily transport between the bivouacs of two storage boxes, your luggage and your wheels.

You must bring your own tools and spare parts. You are also fully responsible for all maintenance and repairs to your motorcycle, without assistance from mechanics or a support crew.

Transport to and from Morocco

To make participation as accessible as possible, the organisation provides shared transport for your motorcycle and equipment to Morocco and back. You can drop off your motorcycle before the rally and collect it again afterwards at designated locations in:

  • Belgium;
  • France;
  • Spain.

The cost of return transport is €500.

Malle Moto is not the easy option. It is a gruelling physical, mental and technical challenge in which you must rely entirely on yourself. But those who reach the finish in Saïdia will have experienced the Morocco Desert Challenge exactly as rally raid was always meant to be: raw, intense and unforgettable.

Don't limit your challenges. Challenge your limits.
